My Story

My Old Life

When I was a teenager, I was full of anger and bitterness. I hated living at home with my parents, and I told them I hated them. At 16, I ran away from home, determined never to return. I knew I could get along by stealing and by walking into small town bars, playing my guitar and singing, and then passing my hat around.

My New Life

Then, on July 28, 1965, at 10:50 PM, something happened in the Thumb of Michigan that changed my life forever.

Immediately I was changed. I stopped stealing, I was not angry and bitter any more, and my hatred was gone. I returned home the following week. I was happier than I had ever been in my life. And I’m still happy!

That was 50 years ago. It was, without question, the most important day of my life.

The following year my story was broadcast on a worldwide network of radio stations. Please click on the button below to listen to the program.
